3D Printed RC Sailboats for STEM Education
Learning Through Building
Building a radio controlled sailboat brings together 3D printing, engineering, physics and practical problem-solving in one engaging project.
Students explore buoyancy, aerodynamics, mechanical systems, electronics and materials while constructing a real, working sailboat. The hands-on process encourages creativity, teamwork and experimentation, with the reward of sailing something they've built themselves.
From 3D Printing to Sailing
Students experience the complete process of creating a functional radio controlled sailboat, from printing the hull and components to assembling, rigging and installing the electronics.
Once on the water, the learning continues. Students can experiment with sail settings, balance and steering to understand how their adjustments affect performance.
Comprehensive online build guides and materials lists support every stage of the project.
Educational Licensing
Racing Sparrow offers educational licences for schools, colleges, makerspaces and clubs, allowing multiple students to build sailboats using the same digital designs.
Each licence includes the STL files and access to detailed build instructions, making the designs suitable for classroom activities, workshops and ongoing STEM programmes.
The designs are digital downloads. Printing materials, electronics and other construction supplies are purchased separately.
Educational Bundle - US$299
Three sailboats, one complete educational package.
The Racing Sparrow Educational Bundle includes the RS Footy 305, RS Ranger 695 and RS850, providing a progression from simple introductory projects to more advanced engineering challenges.
With comprehensive build instructions and educational licensing for all three designs, it's an economical way to introduce practical design, manufacturing and sailing into your learning programme.
