Everything you need to build an RS Footy

RS305 Boat Page

Wondering if you already have most of the parts? This page lists every material, electronic component and recommended supplier needed to build the Racing Sparrow RS Footy. We've organised everything by region and designed the boat around common hobby materials, making it straightforward and affordable to source the parts.

Most builders already own some of the required tools and equipment, making the overall build cost lower than expected.

Notes

The servos for the wee footy need to be light weight but still have reasonable strength. We tried a few brands and sizes and the Emax servos we find are a good balance of price and quality with enough power.

The battery needs to be a 4AAA square pack to fit the battery box. The weight distribution and placement of the battery is critical to the balance of the boat.

The B-rig sail is the best all-round choice. We recommend building at least 2 sails, the B and C rigs for a wide range of sailing conditions.

UK,
Hi, this is my first ever yacht. I normally print rc aircraft and gliders in LW-PLA, and I printed this for a change. First, the Footy was a delight to print. A relaxed day of printing, and everything printed out beautifully with the eSun PLA+ you recommended. Assembly was a doddle using your instructions.

Bryn, this is yet another fan letter. I continue to be impressed with your designs. They are simply fantastic! They print flawlessly, fit together with an absolute minimum of prep work and build easily. Here is a quick snapshot of my first RS Footy, almost ready to launch.

Netherlands,
It was fun to build, and it really does sail very well. I know it wasn’t necessary, but as an experiment I managed to get it completely smooth by sanding, filling, and applying primer.
